I am a big fan of his book "Guns, Germs and Steel", but I never understood this. Does he also publish professional articles in academic journals? Or writing the book for general audience is the primary work?
He does also write specialist articles – see links. It isn’t too unusual for professors to write books for a general readership while doing other "more academic" things. Diamond’s long and respected career means he would be welcome at many universities and there would not be a problem about how he spends his time.
